If you want to follow Jesus, below is a simple, visual explanation of the Good News of Jesus and how you can begin following Him today.
God’s Design
When God created the world, His original design was a place of love, joy, and peace, where we could experience a close, loving relationship with Him and with each other.
Genesis 1:31a
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.
Sin
But we sinned, turning our own way. Sin is anything that goes against God’s original design. Sin leads to separation, brokenness, and death.
Romans 3:23
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
Romans 6:23a
For the wages of sin is death…
Brokenness
When we see the brokenness that sin has caused in our lives we start to search for love, joy, and peace from things in this world. The reality is, we our unable to restore our brokenness and separation from God.
Ephesians 2:3a
All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclination of our sinful nature.
Good News
The Good News is that God did not leave us in our brokenness. Because of His great love, He sent His son, Jesus - God in human flesh - to do what we could not do for ourselves.
Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life according to God’s original design. He died on the cross as a payment for our sins and came back to life three days later to defeat death, making a way back to God.
John 3:16
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Turn & Believe
Just knowing this Good News is not enough to save us from our sin and brokenness. We must make a personal decision to turn back to God and believe. Romans 10:9 says, “…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
John 3:17-18
God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son.
Follow Jesus
All who believe in Jesus are called to follow Him and model their lives after Him. If you are ready to follow Jesus, you can do that right now. You can use the prayer below to confess that you believe and are ready to follow Him today.
Matthew 4:19
“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Prayer:
"Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead, restoring me to You. I turn from my sins and receive Your forgiveness. Today, I choose to trust and follow You as my Savior and the leader of my life. Amen."
